The Thirst Project is a non-profit organization in America that raises money to bring safe drinking water to communities across the world. It first began in 2002 at California with a picture shown by a friend when they returned from a humanitarian service trip in Uganda. Seth began to research more about his crisis over the next couple of months with several chance encounters. He met with prominent individuals who were trying to bring solutions to these problems. The problem is that almost 1 billion people on our planet are suffering from dirty water. About 4,100 children die every day from diseases which are in the contaminated water. Diseases that are water-borne kill 2.2 million people every year. Woman in these communities walk 3.75 miles to collect water to bring to their family. This task falls on females who have no time or energy to go to school.
A lot of people are unaware of this problem or don't know how bad the situation really is. The solution to a problem this big is by fundraising money to build freshwater wells in those communities that need it. A freshwater well costs about 1,700 and that can provide about 500 people with clean water and can save their lives. When a well is built, disease rates drop by 88% and child mortality rates drop by 99%. A way we can help is by fundraising money and sending it to The Thirst Project. I raised my dollar with the money I've had for a long time and that turned into a dollar that was given to me along with my weekly allowance. What I felt when I become aware of a situation was appreciation because California is in a drout yet we have water every where we turn, that makes me grateful we're not like that. Three things that can happen when your body lacks access to clean water is lack of energy, fatigue and ulcers in the stomach. I have never truly experienced what these people have experienced. My family wanted to know what the money was for.
